Skiing in Japan

Japan has become one of the world’s great ski destinations, famous for exceptionally light powder, tree skiing and a winter culture unlike anywhere in Europe or North America. When to Ski in Japan

The main Japanese ski season generally runs from December through to April, with January and February bringing the most consistent snowfall and peak powder conditions. Hokkaido’s colder climate can extend the season from November into May, while several higher resorts around Hakuba also continue into spring.

Comprehensive travel insurance is especially important for a ski holiday in Japan. Make sure your policy covers skiing or snowboarding, medical treatment, emergency evacuation and any backcountry or off-piste activities you intend to take part in. Japan does not have a reciprocal healthcare agreement with the UK, and visitors can be expected to pay the full cost of medical treatment.
