Nozawa Onsen combines a substantial ski mountain with one of Japan’s most atmospheric hot-spring villages. The resort spreads across the slopes of 1,650m Mt Kenashi, offering around 50km of skiing and 44 trails, including a 10km-long descent from the upper mountain. Once the skiing finishes, the experience continues through narrow village streets, traditional inns and 13 community-run public onsen, giving Nozawa a sense of place that few purpose-built ski resorts can match.
