Skiing in Slovakia

Slovakia offers surprisingly varied skiing across the High and Low Tatras, with modern lifts, dramatic mountain scenery and prices that can compare favourably with the western Alps. Jasná provides the country's largest ski area and its strongest freeride terrain, while Tatranská Lomnica and Štrbské Pleso offer high-mountain skiing amid the distinctive peaks of the High Tatras.

When to Ski in Slovakia

The main season generally runs from December through to March or April, with the highest Tatra resorts offering the most dependable conditions. Tatranská Lomnica promotes a five-month snow guarantee on its upper terrain, while Štrbské Pleso benefits from its high setting.

Travel Insurance and Winter Sports Cover

Comprehensive winter sports insurance is strongly recommended. A GHIC or eligible EHIC can provide medically necessary state healthcare in Slovakia, but it does not replace travel insurance or cover all costs associated with a skiing accident or repatriation.
