March 2025 Ski Destinations: Snow, Savings & Secret Slopes

Writer's picture: MattMatt

March is hands down one of the best times to hit the slopes. The days are longer, the snow is still fantastic, and if you time it right, you can avoid the peak-season crowds. But where should you go for the best experience? We’ve put together this list with 5 of our favourite ski spots for March, including pricing, expected snowfall, and quieter slopes to make sure you get the best trip possible.

1. Andermatt, Switzerland

Why We Love It:

One of the snowiest resorts in the Alps, so you’re almost guaranteed fresh powder in March. It's not as busy as Zermatt or Verbier, which makes for a more relaxed experience. If you love off-piste skiing, this place is a dream come true.

  • Expected Snowfall: ~100cm

  • Lift Pass: ~€75 per day

  • Accommodation: From €150 per night (mid-range hotels)

  • Best for: Powder lovers, off-piste enthusiasts, and those looking for a quieter Swiss adventure.

2. La Rosière, France

You can ski between France and Italy, which makes for a really unique experience. The south-facing slopes mean plenty of sunshine, but the north-facing runs keep the snow in great condition. It’s much less crowded than nearby Val d’Isère, so you get more space to enjoy your turns.

  • Expected Snowfall: ~90cm

  • Lift Pass: ~€55 per day

  • Accommodation: From €120 per night (self-catering apartments available)

  • Best for: Families, intermediate skiers, and those wanting to mix skiing with great food in Italy.

3. Telluride, USA

The scenery here is breathtaking—probably one of the most beautiful ski resorts in North America. March is prime time for fresh powder, and the crowds are thinner compared to places like Aspen. The town itself has an authentic, welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home.

  • Expected Snowfall: ~120cm

  • Lift Pass: ~€120 per day

  • Accommodation: From €200 per night

  • Best for: Advanced skiers, backcountry lovers, and anyone who wants fewer crowds in the US.

4. Baqueira Beret, Spain

It’s a hidden gem in the Pyrenees with great snow and way fewer crowds than the Alps. The value for money here is unbeatable—cheaper lift passes and accommodation, but still top-notch skiing. The food is incredible, so you’ll eat well after a long day on the slopes.

  • Expected Snowfall: ~80cm

  • Lift Pass: ~€50 per day

  • Accommodation: From €90 per night

  • Best for: Budget-conscious skiers, food lovers, and those who want a unique European ski experience.

5. Obertauern, Austria

One of Austria’s most reliable snow destinations, even in late March. The slopes are perfect for intermediates and beginners, making it a great all-rounder resort. There’s a fun après-ski scene without being overwhelming—just the right balance of energy and relaxation.

  • Expected Snowfall: ~110cm

  • Lift Pass: ~€60 per day

  • Accommodation: From €130 per night

  • Best for: Snow reliability, intermediate skiers, and those who love Austrian hospitality.

Honourable Mentions:

  • Serre Chevalier, France – Great for quiet slopes and tree-lined runs.

  • Jasná, Slovakia – A budget-friendly resort with excellent off-piste terrain.

  • Shiga Kogen, Japan – If you’re after late-season powder and quiet slopes, this is the place to be.
