Bansko gives you something a little different from the purpose-built Alpine resorts. At 927m, the town sits beneath the Pirin Mountains, pairing cobbled streets and traditional taverns with a modern ski area climbing all the way to 2,600m. There are 75km of marked pistes, 14 lifts and a vertical drop of more than 1,500m, making it Bulgaria’s biggest-name ski destination without losing the character of a proper town.
