Bulgaria's ski resorts offer fantastic value and diverse terrain, making them a hidden gem for winter sports enthusiasts. Bansko is the most popular, boasting modern infrastructure, varied slopes, and vibrant après-ski. Borovets, nestled in the Rila Mountains, offers excellent slopes and a rich historical atmosphere. Pamporovo, ideal for beginners, has sunny weather and scenic runs. Lesser-known gems like Chepelare provide a quieter, more authentic experience, with fewer crowds and unspoiled landscapes.
Bulgaria's ski resorts are ideal for beginners, first-timers, and intermediate skiers. Borovets and Bansko are the largest ski areas in the country, but they offer limited advanced skiing with only 5km and 3km of black runs respectively. The ski season in Bulgaria runs from December to March. With high-altitude skiing and excellent snow, you can expect great conditions for ski holiday at any time.
The weeks around Christmas and New Year are especially popular, providing a festive atmosphere that's enjoyable for families and groups alike.
Travel info
British citizens are not required to obtain a visa for travel to Bulgaria. However, it's important to verify the and expiration dates of your passport. The passport must have been issued less than 10 years prior to your arrival, and it should have a minimum of 3 months' validity remaining after your return date.

Borovets, Bulgaria's oldest ski resort, is nestled in the picturesque Rila Mountains, about 70 km from Sofia. Established in 1896, it has evolved into a popular winter sports destination, offering a mix of modern amenities and charming Alpine-style architecture. The resort features 58 kilometers of ski runs suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced skiers. Its highest point, at 2,560 meters, provides breathtaking views and excellent snow conditions.
Borovets is also renowned for its lively après-ski scene, with numerous bars, restaurants, and entertainment options. Visitors can enjoy night skiing, snowboarding, and various winter activities such as snowshoeing and ice-skating.

Pamporovo

Pamporovo is a hidden gem in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, known for its sunny weather and family-friendly atmosphere. With around 30 km of well-groomed slopes, it’s ideal for beginners and intermediates, offering gentle runs and excellent ski schools. The resort also features scenic forested trails and modern lift facilities. Advanced skiers can enjoy a few challenging slopes, while the region’s lively après-ski scene and affordable prices make it a great choice for visitors.
